E-Collar Training
E-Collar is short for Electronic Collar. Modern E-Collar technology has changed dramatically from what it was decades ago. Today's E-Collars deliver a low-level electrical stimulation — often compared to a gentle tap or nick, similar in principle to a TENS unit used therapeutically in humans — rather than the harsh correction older or lower-quality E-Collars were known for. At the levels we use, most dogs show no more reaction than a brief pause and a look toward you, not distress.
When used in conjunction with an understanding of your dog's personality, cues and responses, E-Collar training does not hurt your dog; it does get their attention, specifically at times when they are distracted and least likely to obey commands.
We use E-Collar training because, in our experience, it produces faster, more consistent results than other methods — particularly for off-leash reliability around real-world distractions. Used correctly, as part of a balanced approach built on praise and positive reinforcement, it's safe, effective, and humane.
**PLEASE NOTE: You should never use an E-Collar on your dog unless you have been trained in its proper use or are under the supervision of a trained E-collar professional.
How the E-Collar Works
E-Collar Technologies collars are remote training tools that use a precise, low-level stimulation — designed to be one of the most humane and effective training tools available when used correctly. It is essentially like tapping your dog on the shoulder and saying - pay attention.
We use the lowest level of stimulation required to get your dog to respond. When combined with clear, concise commands, gentle leash pressure markers, repetition, and lots of praise and positive reinforcement, your dog will quickly and happily respond to your commands.
Training With an E-Collar
After evaluating the issues you're having with your dog and identifying the commands they already know, we begin with a collar conditioning period, giving your dog time to get comfortable wearing the E-collar.
From there, we start with the most fundamental commands in the Off-Leash Dog Training program: Come, Sit, Down, Place, and Heel. As your dog succeeds with each one, we add new commands, continue reinforcing what's already been learned, and gradually introduce distractions.
Commands only matter if your dog can follow them when it counts — which is why distraction-proofing is one of the most important parts of our training programs. We use generous praise and positive reinforcement, so your dog enjoys responding to commands simply to earn that praise, and perhaps the occasional treat.
As your dog grows more confident, we steadily increase the level of distraction until they respond reliably, even in a busy, unpredictable environment.
The result: a dog you can trust to listen, wherever you are.
